Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
